McKendree Athletics Places Fifth in 2021-22 GLVC All-Sports Trophy Standings

Bearcats Won GLVC Titles in Women's Bowling, Men's Tennis and Men's Wrestling

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second consecutive school year, McKendree University Athletics finished sixth overall in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Sports Trophy standings for the 2021-22 academic year as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Bearcats totaled 140.5 points during the 2021-22 school year and finished three points in front of seventh place UMSL (137.5 points) and 22 points behind fourth place Lindenwood (162.5 points). It marks the second straight school year that McKendree has finished in sixth place in the All-Sports Trophy standings and the sixth time in the last seven years that McKendree has finished in the Top 10.
 
University of Indianapolis claimed its 10th straight and 13th all-time GLVC All-Sports Trophy as the Greyhounds totaled 218 points to win by 34 points this season over second-place Lewis University (184 points). Drury was third with 178.5 points and Lindenwood was fourth with 162.5 points.
 
The GLVC All-Sports Trophy is presented to the institution that demonstrates the best all-around performance in the league's 24 sponsored sports. Points are allocated based on overall finish in the respective sport's Conference tournament and league standings.
 
During the 2021-22 season, McKendree, which is led by Director of Athletics Anthony Francis, captured a trio of GLVC Championships in men's wrestling, women's bowling and men's tennis, along with winning the regular season title in women's soccer.
 
Along with winning three GLVC postseason titles and one regular season title, McKendree also finished in the semifinals of match play at the GLVC men's golf championships, were third at the GLVC Championships in men's swimming & diving and was fourth in the women's lacrosse regular season standings.
 
The Bearcats scored double figure points in four sports as they tallied 13 points in both women's soccer and men's tennis, while scoring 10 points each in both men's soccer and men's golf. McKendree also scored nine points in men's basketball and eight points in men's swimming & diving, men's wrestling, women's golf, and baseball. The Bearcats totaled seven points in both women's bowling and softball and six points in women's swimming & diving and men's track and field. Women's lacrosse and women's cross country each scored five points, while women's track & field scored 4.5 points and football tallied four points. Women's volleyball had three points and men's cross country, women's basketball and women's tennis had two points.
 
For the 2021-22 school year, McKendree won a total of four GLVC titles as the women's soccer team won the GLVC regular season title, while the men's tennis, men's wrestling, and women's bowling won GLVC Tournament championships. Additionally, the Bearcats captured regional titles in women's wrestling and bowling, took home national championships in both women's wrestling and women's bowling and advanced to NCAA postseason play in women's soccer, men's wrestling, women's swimming & diving, men's swimming & diving, women's bowling, men's tennis, women's golf, and men's golf.

The All-Sports Trophy was first instituted in the GLVC during the 1978-79 season with seven different institutions having claimed the award.
