Men's Tennis Earns No. 3 Seed in NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, Faces No. 6 Seed Tiffin in First Round

LEBANON, Ill. – Two days after earning the automatic bid from the Great Lakes Valley Conference into the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships, McKendree University learned its postseason opponent and destination when the NCAA unveiled the 48-team championship field on Tuesday evening.
 
The Bearcats, who are making its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and first since 2014 when they fell in the first round at Northwood (Mich.) University, earned the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region and will face sixth seeded Tiffin University in a first round contest on Monday, April 9 at Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind. The Midwest Region 2 Tournament will be hosted by region No. 2 seed University of Indianapolis.
 
McKendree's first round foe, Tiffin, earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after capturing the GMAC Tournament Championship over Findlay on April 23. Tiffin, who is sporting an 18-7 overall record and is 13-6 in Division II matches, is making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022.
 
McKendree enters the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament having won eight consecutive matches, including going 3-0 at last weekend's GLVC Tournament en route to earning the first men's tennis title in school history, and is sporting a 20-2 overall record and a 13-2 record in Division II matches. The 20 wins are tied for the most wins in school history.
 
The winner of that match will face the winner of Monday's other first round match between No. 2 seeded Indianapolis and No. 7 seeded Davenport in Tuesday's Midwest Region #2 championship match. Each of the eight regionals this season are hosting two tournaments with the winners of each of the regionals advancing to the NCAA D-II National Championships, which are scheduled for May 17-21 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
 
The Bearcats and the Dragons have played three times previously with the Bearcats having won all three matches, including a 5-2 win in Lexington, Ohio, on March 11, 2020.
 
In addition to the regional hosted by UIndy in Greenwood, Ind., the other Midwest Regional is being hosted by Wayne State (Mich.) University as they are the region's No. 1 seed. In the first round, Wayne State will meet No. 8 seed Lewis on Monday, May 9 at 11 a.m. ET, while the other match-up features No. 4 seed Grand Valley State facing No. 5 seed Ferris State.
