McKendree Places 12 Programs on Team Academic All-GLVC List

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – McKendree University opened this year's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Academic Awards Week by placing 12 teams on the 2021-22 Team Academic All-GLVC List on Monday.
 
To earn a Team Academic All-GLVC honor, an individual program must have its varsity team members earn at least a 3.30 grade point average on a 4.0 score for the entire 2021-22 academic year. The Bearcats did their part to contribute to the 176 men's and women's teams that received the honor this year.
 
Of the 12 programs honored from McKendree, the women's basketball team registered the highest collective team GPA for the 2021-22 at 3.65. A total of six McKendree teams finished the 2021-22 academic year with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Along with the women's basketball team, among that group was women's soccer (3.64), women's volleyball (3.64), women's cross country (3.62), women's bowling (3.56) and women's tennis (3.50).
 
Among all conference member schools, McKendree's men's soccer program was tied for tops in the league with Maryville, who each posted a team GPA of 3.46, while the women's soccer team had the second-`best GPA among the 15 league schools honored.
 
Also earning Team Academic All-GLVC accolades for McKendree in 2021-22 included women's swimming & diving (3.49), women's lacrosse (3.48), women's golf (3.46), men's soccer (3.46), men's swimming & diving (3.37) and softball (3.34).
 
The GLVC had 11 member institutions finish with 10 or more teams recording a GPA at or above 3.30. Maryville led the way with 16 teams, while Indianapolis was second with 15 teams and Drury, Lewis and Lindenwood each had 14 teams honored. Illinois-Springfield and Truman State each had 13, while Rockhurst, Southern Indiana and UMSL each had 11 teams recognized.
 
Of the 173 GLVC honored programs, 122 came from women's sports and 51 from the men's side. Four league sports – women's soccer (15), women's volleyball (15), women's golf (13) and women's swimming & diving (9) – saw all their teams above the 3.30 GPA mark. In addition, women's basketball (13), women's cross country (13), women's tennis (12) and softball (13) had all but two programs meet the threshold.
