No.7 Women's Hockey Drops, Ties With No.4 Midland in Homestand

Bearcats host rival Maryville on Friday afternoon

O'FALLON, Ill. - No.7 McKendree University women's hockey (11-5-2, 3-5-2 WMCH) was unable to grab a victory in its home series on Friday and Saturday, dropping the first game against No.4 Midland, 2-0, and tying the Warriors in the second contest, 2-2. McKendree returns to its home ice for a single game against Maryville on Friday, February 3 at 4:15 PM.

McKendree entered the weekend with an eight-game winning streak but was unable to continue the streak in its top-10 matchup. 

Midland and McKendree were null on scoring following the first period. Midland scored a pair of goals in the second period during the first 10 minutes following the intermission. 

The pair of goals were the only scoring in the game.

Freshman goaltender Rachel Staresinic grabbed 34 saves during the outing while playing full time in net.

Game 2 | January 28 | Game Center
McKendree fired away first in the second game of the weekend with sophomore forward Kiley Hasenfratz scoring her seventh of the year. Hasenfratz goal was assisted on by freshman forward Jayna Barnden and senior center Camryn Scully. Midland tied up the game in the last minutes of the first period during a power play.

The second 20 minutes of action held no scoring with the game going into the final period tied 1-1. 

Midland took the lead two minutes into the third period, 2-1. Sophomore defender Aria Groot scored the game-tying goal five minutes later with Hasenfratz and freshman forward Cricket Colebank assisting the score. 

The game went into overtime but neither team could muster a score in extra time. 

Senior goaltender Naomi Leasck held net in full time with 30 saves on the day.
