QUINCY, Ill. – The Bearcats took on in-state opponent Quincy University on Saturday, October 28th at QU Stadium. After trailing 31-21 at the half, McKendree's defense pitched a shutout in the 2nd half to win 41-34. This win makes it three in a row for the Bearcats to improve their record to 3-5 (3-2 GLVC).
The Hawks jumped out to a 14-0 lead seven minutes into the game. The Bearcats fought back starting with Caleb Fisher finding Quincy Hall, Jr on a 17-yard corner strike to make it a 14-7 game. With under two minutes to go in the quarter, Ja'Markus Gary picked up a Hawk fumble and returned it 38 yards to the end zone to tie the ball game at 14.
QU's running back Jadon Washington scored for a third time to put the Hawks back up by a score. Fisher went back to the well and found Hall, Jr once more from 25 yards as the Bearcats tied the game at 21. QU added a touchdown and a field goal to take a ten point into the half.
McKendree's offense came out and took the opening drive of the second half 82 yards in eight plays to get the score within 3, capped off by a Kendall Abdur-Rahmen touchdown. The Bearcats took the lead for good with under four minutes remaining in the quarter as Fisher found Brylan Apholone on an 8-yard pass.
The fourth quarter was relatively quiet on the scoring front. Eddie Clark added an insurance touchdown for the Bearcats to give them a ten point lead.
McKendree will hit the road for the final time in the 2023 campaign as they travel to the University of Indianapolis on November 4th.
