Bearcats beat out SBU at home with two first-half goals

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University women's soccer (12-1-3, 8-1-3 GLVC) claimed a sixth-straight victory on Friday evening, defeating Southwest Baptist on a 2-1 count. The Bearcats were led with two first-half scores as graduate midfielder Allison Frederking and senior midfielder Katie Spotanski both found the back of the net. McKendree closes-out the regular season on Sunday, October 29, with a matchup against Drury at 12PM.

The Bearcats dominated from start to finish, tallying a total of 27 shots, nine on-frame attempts, and nine corners earned, while controlling the pitch from end to end. The game broke open in the 29th minute of action as Frederking fired her first goal of the season off an assist by junior defender Maria Voss. Voss made a long throw to the box from the corner with Frederking flicking the ball via header to find the back of the net. Shortly after the opening score, Spotanski found a gap beyond the 18-yard box, firing a deep shot which shot downwards off the crossbar, hitting the back of the net. The Bearcats led 2-0 at the intermission period.

In the second half, SBU found a chance with a oddly flying ball to cut McKendree's lead to ne goal in the 49th minute. McKendree battled through, dominating possession and loading up on chances by the net. Senior keeper Abby Tucker got the win in net with one save in full time.
