BOLIVAR, Mo. – Despite outscoring the Southwest Baptist Bearcats in the final three quarters 17-7, McKendree would fall to 0-5 (0-2 GLVC) with the 24-17 loss on Saturday, October 7th.
SBU would pick off a McKendree pass which gave them prime field position. They took advantage of the field position and opened up the scoring with Riley Walker finding Jordan Kent on a 16 yard TD pass with nine and a half minutes left in the first quarter. After the McKendree defense showed its teeth, Logan Turner hit a 34 yard field goal to make it 10-0 SBU. Southwest Baptist made it a 17-0 game with just over two minutes left in the opening quarter with a blocked punt return for the score.
Ryan Kastl got McKendree on the board with his 37 yard field goal that capped an eight play, 32 yard drive. After a bad snap on a punt attempt by SBU, McKendree took over at the SBU 18. It took them another eight plays that resulted in Caleb Fisher finding the end zone on the QB sneak to make it a one possession game.
SBU extended their lead back out to two possessions as Walker found Rodrick Weaver on a 12 yard touchdown pass with three and a half minutes left in the opening half.
During the second half, both teams were quiet on offense. McKendree had the lone scoring drive with Fisher finding Brylan Apholone on a 4 yard TD pass to wrap up the scoring.
