MARQUETTE, Mich. - No.6-seed McKendree University women's soccer (16-2-3) dropped its first round NCAA Tournament contest, 3-0, against third-seeded Grand Valley State on the campus of Northern Michigan on Friday morning. The Bearcats were unable to convert a multitude of solid chances while pressuring the Lakers' defense. McKendree will return to the pitch for the spring season with practices and the spring slate to be released later this winter. 2023 was McKendree's seventh-straight NCAA Tournament appearance after winning their fourth GLVC crown since 2016.
McKendree fired five shots in the first half with one on-frame, battling with the Lakers throughout the first 45 minutes of play. The Bearcats and GVSU went back and forth with possession with both squads having chances in the attacking third. GVSU broke through in the 30th minute, firing the first and eventual game-winner. The Lakers added their second goal in the 40th minute. GV led 2-0 entering the intermission period.
McKendree fought back to start the second half with aggressive defense and attack, firing seven shots to the Lakers' six. The Bearcats were unable to connect on their attempts, with GVSU firing one final goal in the 61st.
McKendre ducks out of the NCAA Tournament following the loss.
