QUINCY, Ill. - McKendree University women's basketball faced Hillsdale college on Saturday afternoon for its final game of the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic at Quincy University. The Bearcats improved to 2-2 on the year with the win.
McKendree's offense came out strong as the Bearcats coasted to a 16-point lead by the end of the first quarter. By the half, the Bearcats had extended their lead to 42-25 after shooting 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line in the first two quarters.
McKendree extended its lead to as many as 23 points in the third quarter though the Chargers would find a spark of offense in the fourth quarter. With 30 seconds left to play in the quarter, the Bearcats led by five and held on for the win 75-66.
Leading the Bearcats and earning a spot on the All-Tournament team was senior guard Madyson Harper with a career-high 23 points, netting four threes and going 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Senior guard Maclayne Taylor and junior guard Clare Breden each tallied 13 points while senior guard Christy Fortune added 10 for the day. On the boards, Taylor grabbed eight in addition to seven rebounds by senior forward Naomi McDaniel.
McKendree drew many opportunities for free throws, attempting 31 to the Chargers' 15.
Coming up, the Bearcats are back at home after Thanksgiving break on Saturday, November 25 at 1pm against Truman State.
