LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's basketball continues its 2023-24 conference campaign this week, facing Rockhurst University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and William Jewell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
McKendree sports a 4-2 overall record and 2-0 conference record after securing wins over Truman State and Maryville in their first GLVC action of the year. Junior guard Clare Breden has led in scoring with an average of 18.8 points, placing her fifth overall in the GLVC. Breden is also fourth for field goal percentage shooting 53.5 percent. Also in the top five for conference statistics is senior forward Naomi McDaniel ranking fifth at 1.2 blocks per game.
Rockhurst is 1-1 on the year and 1-0 in the GLVC following a 109-87 win over Illinois-Springfield last week. Sophomore guard Macie Conway earned last week's GLVC Player of the Week honor after a 31-point performance against the Prairie Stars where she shot 100 percent from both the three-point and free throw lines as well as 77 percent from the field. Last season, McKendree and Rockhurst won a game each in the two matchups for the year.
William Jewell is off to a 1-5 start overall and 0-1 in conference play to begin the season. Most recently, the Cardinals faced Quincy, falling 74-62. The Cardinals will play the University of Missouri-St. Louis before Saturday's contest at McKendree. Sophomore guard Ayden Shannon leads William Jewell in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game. McKendree faced the Cardinals twice last season and came away with two wins.
