LEBANON, Ill. – The men's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 GLVC) opened GLVC play at home hosting the Rockhurst University Hawks on Thursday, December 30th. Despite trailing by six at the halftime break, the Bearcats came out and outscored the Hawks 50-40 in the 2nd half to take the win by the score of 85-81.
During the second half comeback, McKendree shot an impressive 63% from the field and 59.6% for the contest. Junior forward Milos Vicentic scored 21 of his 30 points in the final 20 minutes on 9 of 13 from the field.
The Hawks' lead would grow to as large of 12 in the early stages of the closing half, but the Bearcats did not give up. They would go on a few decent scoring runs to tie the game a few different times over the middle part of the half. McKendree would take the lead for good with seven minutes remaining.
Also posting double figures was Joey Niesman with 15 points, including 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. Coming off the bench, Kevin Stein and Hayden Meakes each posted double figures with 13 and 10 apiece. Carson Parker filled the stat sheet all the way around with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
The Bearcats will remain at home with the William Jewell Cardinals coming to the Melvin Price Convocation Center with tip off scheduled for 3:00 p.m on Saturday, December 2nd.
