INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McKendree University women's basketball junior guard Clare Breden was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Breden is the second consecutive Bearcat to win the award as senior forward Naomi McDaniel was honored last week. The weekly award marks Breden's first of her career and second overall in McKendree women's basketball history since joining the GLVC in 2013.
Breden helped McKendree to two conference wins to remain undefeated in GLVC play. The Bearcats won 90-84 over Illinois Springfield and 65-61 over Quincy. Breden averaged 22 points, three assists, 2.5 rebounds and two steals across both games. The Jerseyville native tallied a season-high 25 points against Illinois Springfield.
From the field, Breden shot 46 percent (13-of-28) in addition to an impressive 95 percent from the free throw line (18-of-19) including a perfect 13-of-13 performance at UIS.
Up next, the Bearcats travel to Puerto Rico this weekend for two games against the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon and the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
