LEBANON, Ill. – Looking to wrap up the 2023 portion of the schedule on a high note, the McKendree University Bearcats (7-3, 2-2 GLVC) hosted the Grand Valley State University Lakers (4-5, 1-0 GLIAC) on Sunday, December 17th. The Bearcats would come away with their first win over the Lakers in now three tries by the score of 73-65.
The Lakers came in shooting 45% from the floor, but the Bearcats' defense was able to hold them to 36.6% (26-71). McKendree shot 26-of-60 for 43.3%. The Bearcats went 11-of-29 from beyond the arc, led by Caleb Zurliene who went 5-of-6.
Zurliene paced the Bearcats with 21 points on 7-of-11 from the field. He also nabbed eight boards, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Milos Vicentic had 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting with seven rebounds. Also seeing double figures was Carson Parker and Luka Mateski with 10 points apiece.
They will now have 14 days off as they host the Baptist Bible College Patriots on New Years' Day with tip off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
