LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's volleyball fell to Lindenwood before picking up a win on their home court against Quincy last week. The Bearcats improve to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association as they prepare for two more MIVA contests this week.
McKendree faced Lindenwood on Thursday night as the Lions took the first set 25-17, though the Bearcats responded with a second-set win of 25-17. The third and fourth sets proved an even battle between the two teams as Lindenwood narrowly won both sets 28-26.
Against the Lions, the Bearcats were led by offensively by sophomore outside hitter Kevin Schuele with 15 kills, redshirt junior outside hitter Kyle Wilson with 13 kills, and freshman opposite side hitter Bryce Wetjen with 12 kills. Additionally, Wilson and junior setter Tyler Poulsen each posted two service aces.
Defensively, Wilson recorded a team-high six blocks while Poulsen added five blocks and middle blockers redshirt senior Daniel Duggan and freshman Rolen Lively each tallied four. Wilson and Poulsen also topped the digs with eight each.
The Bearcats bounced back with their first MIVA win on Friday night against Quincy, recording their second three-set victory of the season. McKendree won the game with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-23 respectively.
In the win, McKendree was led by Wilson with 11 kills. Opposite side hitter Nikos Xydakis and Kevin Schuele recorded hitting percentages of .600 and .476, respectively.
Schuele also collected a team-high seven digs while Lively added seven digs in the victory. Four Bearcats recorded five or more blocks.
Across the two games, Poulsen recorded 69 total assists.
McKendree will be back in action this week against MIVA foes Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday night and Loyola Chicago on Saturday.
