O'FALLON, Ill. - No.20-ranked McKendree University men's tennis secured two 6-1 wins over Missouri Baptist University and Webster University this past weekend at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill. The Bearcats stand at 2-1 for their spring season as they prepare to host Illinois College this coming weekend.  

McKendree began the weekend with a 6-1 win against Missouri Baptist on Friday, clinching a 2-1 victory in doubles' matches. In the No.1 doubles match, senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico and freshman Benedek Szombathelyi recorded a score of 6-2 while the No.3 duo of seniors Nanase Ebisu and Lorenzo del Biondo posted a 6-3 win. Freshmen Tomas Leston and Jose Antonio Velasco fell 0-6 in the No.2 match. 

In singles play, Schmitz Frederico, Szombtaheyli, and Leston sealed the No.1-3 matches, respectively, while Ebisu snagged a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No.5 match and del Biondo took the No.6 match 6-0, 6-4.  

Against Webster, McKendree swept the doubles' matches as Leston and Velasco won at No.1, senior Ryan Fung and sophomore Charlie Sanzo won at No.2, and freshmen Ian Ramiro Perez Rodriguez and Aimar Oregui took the No.3 match.  

For singles, Velasco fell 3-6, 6-7 in the No.1 match while Sanzo recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No.2. Perez Rodriguez posted scores of 6-2, 6-4, Oregui won 6-0, 6-0 at No.5, senior Carlos Etty snagged a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.5, and junior Diego Castillo Samperio won the No.6 match 6-0, 6-0.  

McKendree continues its 2023 campaign this coming weekend as they host Illinois College on March 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Clair Tennis Club.
