Women's Basketball Suffers Defeat to Truman State

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's basketball's three-game win streak was halted Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats fell to Truman State 82-54. The Bearcats move to 10-11 on the season with a 7-7 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as they prepare for two road games this week.

McKendree was the first to strike offensively with a layup from junior forward Naomi McDaniel. The two teams traded baskets, setting the score at 8-8 before the Bulldogs would go on an 11-0 run to end the first quarter. McKendree outscored Truman State 14-13 in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs held the advantage at the half, 32-22.

Truman State's fast-paced offense pressed on, putting up 25 points in the third quarter as the Bearcats were held to 13 points. Another 25-point quarter in the fourth period of play put the game out of reach for the Bearcats as the Bulldogs took the win, 82-54.

McKendree was led in scoring by junior guard Madyson Harper who netted 11 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter. Harper added four rebounds and a team-high three assists in the contest. Junior guard Maclayne Taylor and McDaniel each tallied 10 points while Taylor snagged a game-high four steals and McDaniel grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

McKendree and Truman State tied in rebounds at 38-38, though the Bearcats won the battle of steals, nine to five. McKendree struggled to connect on attempts from the field as the Bearcats were held to shooting 31.3 percent from the field.

Truman State improves to 16-7 on the season and 12-3 in the GLVC with the win. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by senior guard Hannah Belanger with 18 points.

Coming up, the Bearcats will be on the road at Southwest Baptist on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and Saturday at Rockhurst for a 1 p.m. contest.
