Box Score 3 MARSHALL, Mo. - McKendree University men's tennis captured three wins in their weekend road trip with victories over William Jewell (7-0), Rockhurst (5-2), and Missouri Valley College (6-1). The Bearcats improve to 8-2 on the season and will look for their ninth win on March 29 against Washington University-St. Louis.
In doubles play, McKendree's No.1 team of senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico and freshman Benedek Szombathelyi went 3-0 on the weekend. Tomas Leston and Jose Antonio Velasco sealed two No.2 wins against Rockhurst and Missouri Valley as well as a No.3 win over William Jewell.
In singles matches, No.38-ranked Schmitz Frederico collected a 3-0 sweep in the No.1 slot for the Bearcats, including two upsets over William Jewell's 31st-ranked Ugnius Bickauskis (6-3, 6-7, 10-7) and No.36-ranked Louis Keiner of Rockhurst (6-3, 6-2). Schmitz Frederico rounded out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Missouri Valley's Jacopo Scottocornola.
Szombathelyi captured three wins in McKendree's No.2 matches, taking down William Jewell's Max Quennery (7-5, 6-0), Rockhurst's Josef Truhlar (6-3, 6-3), and Missouri Valley's Kaito Tanitsu (6-4, 4-6, 10-8). In the No.3 singles, No.23-ranked Leston tallied three victories against William Jewell's Gage Foltz (6-2, 6-3), Rockhurst's Agustin Cortes (7-5, 6-4), and Missouri Valley's Francesco Caratti (6-4, 0-6, 10-7).
