LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University softball went 1-1 against Drury University on Sunday afternoon at Bearcat Field. The Bearcats hold a 25-13 overall record and a 12-8 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as they prepare for their final regular-season games next weekend.
Game one of the doubleheader saw 9.5 scoreless innings before junior outfielder Taylor Witges stepped to the plate and cracked an RBI double to bring in junior outfielder Jordan Sapp for the 1-0 win. Witges recorded two hits in the contest while freshman infielder Lauren Harris registered the third hit for the Bearcats.
Junior Ellie Quaethem pitched the complete 10 innings for McKendree, striking out 11 batters and allowing five hits as the Bearcats held the Panthers to a shutout. Quaethem improved to 17-3 on the season.
In game two, the Bearcats fell to the Panthers 6-4 as Drury recorded nine total hits for the game. McKendree was led at the plate by senior utility player Skyler Davis who went 3-4 and scored one run. Junior Sydney Bires started in the circle for McKendree while junior Sophia Koesterer finished the final inning.
Coming up, McKendree will play its final home games on Saturday, April 29 with a doubleheader against Maryville starting at 12 p.m. The Bearcats finish out their regular season on Sunday, April 30 with two road games against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 12 p.m.
