EAST PEORIA, Ill. | EastSide Centre - Third-seeded McKendree University softball (29-15, 15-9 GLVC) fell on Thursday evening during its Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament first round game against sixth-seeded Lewis. The Bearcats grabbed the lead in the bottom half of the sixth but were unable to hold the Flyers in the final inning. McKendree will play against UMSL in its second round game on Friday at 12:30PM.
Lewis started the scoring with a fielder's choice bunt, turning into a score, making it 1-0 Flyers in the top of the second. McKendree fired back with a RBI-groundout by freshman
Lauren Harris, bringing in junior outfielder
Taylor Witges. The game was tied 1-1 following the third.
McKendree took the lead in the fifth with Harris bombing a ball beyond the fence in right. Lewis shot back in the top of the sixth with its own solo homer, tying the game 2-2.
The Bearcats managed a one-run bottom half of the sixth with a double by freshman
Macy Brown, scoring freshman
Jenna Getz. Lewis added the winning run in the top of the seventh with a two-run shot, to make the game 4-3.
Junior hurler
Ellie Quaethem struck-out seven in the game while five different Bearcats recorded hits in the game.
