ROLLA, Mo. - The men's and women's track team traveled to Missouri S&T this weekend to compete in the GLVC Championships. The men's team brought home 6th place and the women's team placed 11th.
Malachi Carroll (Omaha, NE/Harry A. Burke) was the Bearcats leading performer bringing home victory in both the 100m and 200m dash as well as helping the 4x100m relay team to a silver medal. He was declared the GLVC Athlete of the Meet and set a GLVC Championship record of 10.23 in the 100m dash.
Brendan Harter (St. Louis, MO/DeSmet Jesuit) was Mckendree's other individual medalist placing 3rd in the High Jump with a mark of 2.02m. Carroll was assisted by
Johnathan Bumpers (Alton, IL/ Alton),
Holden Hutchcraft (Pinckneyville, IL/Pinckneyville), and
Dorian Foster (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) in the 4x100m dash which had their fastest time of the year, 41.92. Bumpers and Hutchcraft then came back to be a part of the silver medal earning 4x400m relay alongside
George Safo (Crete, IL/Crete Monee) and
Oshawi Burgher (Kingston, Jamaica/ Excelsior). Bumpers had strong performances outside of the relays as well placing 7th in the long jump and 4th in the 110m hurdles.
On the Women's side the highest individual finishers were
Azia Douglas (Cahokia Heights, IL/Althoff Catholic) and
Reagan Lucas (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg) who placed 11th in the 400m hurdles and 800m respectively. Douglas also got a new personal best in the 100m hurdles of 17.42. Both Lucas and Douglas came back to run in the 4x400m which placed 9th alongside
Tori King (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) and
Sophia Paschal (Godfrey, IL/Alton). King also placed 15th in the 200m Dash and 19th in the 100m. Paschal placed 12th in the Steeple Chase. Another great performance came from
Kira Johnson (Perham, MN/Perham) who set a new personal record in the discus with a toss of 29.92m. Johnson also helped the bearcats by competing in the shot put and javelin as well.
This marks the end of the season for the Bearcats. However,
Malachi Carroll currently sits in position to go to the NCAA Championships in Pueblo Colorado on May 25 through May 27.
