No.13 Women's Soccer Falls in #GLVCwsoc Opener

Bearcats drop to Hawks to close 24-game regular season unbeaten streak

KANSAS CITY, Mo. | Bourke Field - No.13 McKendree University women's soccer (4-1-0, 0-1-0 GLVC) dropped its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Friday evening, falling to the Rockhurst Hawks, 2-0. The Bearcats rose to No.13 in the country following their 4-0-0 start to the season but were unable to get traction in a tough road battle. With the loss, McKendree's 24-game regular season unbeaten streak came to a close; the streak dated back to 2022 where McKendree completed a 12-0-5 regular season and 2021, which featured a three-game win streak to end the regular season. The Bearcats will look to regain their traction against William Jewell on Sunday afternoon in Liberty.

McKendree shot-off early with a flurry of attempts in the first half, as they fired 26 shots in that period. The Bearcats handily controlled the first 45 but could not find the back of the net in the efforts, trailing 1-0 at the intermission period. Rockhurst put up a score in the ninth minute to gain the halftime advantage.

The Bearcats once again out-shot the Hawks in the second half but could not convert the chances. Rockhurst built its lead up to 2-0 in the latter of the second half, making to 2-0 in the 76th. 

NOTES
McKendree dropped its first regular season contest since October 15, 2021, when they fell to Missouri S&T on the road, 1-0. The Bearcats wont three contests to end the 2021 regular season before completing a 12-0-5 season in 2022 and claiming the first four contests of 2023. 

The Bearcats fired 33 shots in the game, vastly out-shooting the Hawks, but only sent four on-frame. RU put up six total shots with three on-goal. 

The loss in McKendree's first dropped contest against RU since 2019.

McKendree will continue its weekend on the road at William Jewell on Sunday, September 17 with a 12 PM kickoff.
