Quincy, Ill. - McKendree University men's tennis was originally supposed to compete in the Quincy University Invitational, along with UMSL and Missouri Baptist. The invitational was rained out, so the Bearcats and Hawks agreed to a dual match at the Quincy Racquet Club.
Sophomore Bendix Schröder led off singles with a dominant straight sets win (6-4, 6-0). Freshman Giacomo Valerga secured a win in dramatic fashion winning the third set tiebreaker 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 in his first match as a Bearcat. Sixth year senior Vishnu Prasad won his match due to the QU competitor retiring. Fifth year senior Lorenzo del Biondo took care of business winning in straight sets 6-3,6-3. Sophomore Luka Kalenic won his match in straight sets as well, 7-5, 6-1. Sophomore Arhaan Pahwa closed out the singles matches with a win as well (6-4, 6-2).
In doubles action, Biondo and Junior Seb Holden won their match 7-6 (5), while Pahwa and sophomore Arimar Oregui took care of their Hawk opponents 7-5.
The Bearcats next action comes this weekend Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday Sept. 23 at the Southwest Baptist Invitational.
