LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University women's soccer (6-1-0) chalked up its sixth win on Sunday afternoon, beating Missouri-St. Louis on a 2-1 count. The Bearcats controlled the contest from end-to-end as they led 2-0 at the half as senior forward
Destiny Johnson recorded a score and the Tritons made it two with an own-goal after an attempted cross by senior forward
Anna Stiffler. McKendree continues its stint at home with games against Lewis and UIndy on September 29 and October 1.
McKendree did not wait long as it took the lead with a goal in the second minute by Johnson via a header traveling into the net. On the header goal, junior forward
Lena Higgins and graduate defender
Morgan Bova earned the assists.
In the seventh minute, the Bearcats pushed hard against the Tritons back line and found success in an unusual manner. Stiffler received the ball, making a move down the side of the box and firing a missile towards the goal. A Triton defender floated into the ball, attempting to clear it but knocked it into the net for an own goal. The Bearcats led 2-0 less than seven minutes into the game.
The Triton struck back in the second half in the 55th minute but could not surpass the Bearcats' defense again. The Tritons mustered just three shots on frame in the contest.
McKendree claimed the win, a 15th-straight regular season home victory, as senior keeper
Abby Tucker added another full-time win.
