FAYETTE, Iowa | Harms-Eischeid Stadium - McKendree University women's soccer (2-0-0) closed out its opening weekend with a 3-0 shutout victory over Concordia-St. Paul, beginning back-to-back season with two consecutive wins. The Bearcats were brought to victory with three different scorers in senior forward
Anna Stiffler, senior midfielder
Reagan Mauch, and freshman forward
Maggie Gleckler. McKendree will open up Leemon Field for the 2023 fall season in its next outing, playing host to Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 6 at 5 PM.
The Bearcats fired-off early with nine shots in the first half while walling-off the opposing attack as the Bears did not record a first-half shot. Stiffler recorded the eventual game-winner in the 18th minute, marking her third goal of the campaign with Gleckler dishing-out the assist, the first of her career. The Bearcats then received a penalty kick opportunity in the 32nd minute of the first half, which Mauch put into the back of the net to grow the lead, 2-0.
McKendree held a 2-0 advantage going into the halftime intermission period.
In the second half, the Bearcats tacked-on another insurance score with Gleckler finding the net for her first career score after she recorded her first career assist in the first half.
McKendree held on for the shutout win, 3-0, as senior goalkeeper
Abby Tucker added another win with a pair of saves in full time in goal.
NOTES
With the win, McKendree marked consecutive seasons with an unbeaten 2-0 opening weekend. The Bearcats defeated CSP and Upper Iowa in 2022 during their first weekend contests.
Freshman
Maggie Gleckler tallied her first goal and assist in the contest with the third score (47th minute) and the assist on the game-winner fired by Stiffler.
Senior forward
Anna Stiffler collected her third score of the season in the 18th minute. The goal also served as the game-winner, her second of the fall in as many games.
Senior midfielder
Reagan Mauch blasted her first score of the season with the goal coming off a penalty kick awarded to the Bearcats.
Senior keeper
Abby Tucker added her second win with full time in net, grabbing two saves in the victory.
