O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree University men's swimming celebrated three seniors on Friday and claimed a huge win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Bearcats defeated the Tritons 208-72, taking first place in all 16 events.
Both relay victories belonged to the Bearcats as fifth-year senior DaVante Carey, senior Filipe Pinheiro, junior Jackson Lustig, and sophomore Mario Perez Torrado secured the 200 medley relay in 1:28.44 while junior Alireza Yavari, graduate student Caleb Law, Perez Torrado, and sophomore Tyson Upton took care of the 200 freestyle relay in 1:21.00. Four McKendree teams took the top four spots in 200 freestyle relay.
Three Bearcats won two individual events each including sophomore Xander McWhorter in 1 meter and 3 meter diving, Lustig in both butterfly events, and Upton in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
A whole slew of Bearcats took one individual win on the day, beginning with freshman Christian Davidson in the 1650 freestyle and Carey in the 100 backstroke. In the 100 breaststroke, Pinheiro touched first with a time of 55.46 just before Law claimed the top spot in the 50 freestyle in 20.32. Junior Patryk Rozenek won the 200 backstroke while junior Ethan Hanson took the gold in the 200 breaststroke. Rounding out the wins for the day were junior Leo Gandaria-Hernandez in the 500 freestyle and sophomore Caden Brooks in the 200 individual medley.
Up next in the Bearcat Swim season, McKendree will compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Feb. 6-10 in Evansville, Ind.
