LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's basketball is set to host Maryville University on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. and Missouri S&T on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. The Bearcats look to maintain their No.1 ranking in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with an overall record of 14-3 and a 10-1 record in the GLVC.
McKendree is coming off an exciting week of two overtime wins against Lewis and Indianapolis. As a team, McKendree ranks second-highest in the conference in field goal percentage at 44.3 percent and third for three-point shooting at 33.6 percent. Three Bearcats rank in the top portion of statistical categories including junior guard Clare Breden who is third in scoring (17.5 points per game) along with senior guard Christy Fortune who is third in three-point percentage (40.5 percent). Additionally, senior forward Naomi McDaniel is second in blocks (1.5 per game), fourth in field goal percentage (54.5 percent), and fifth in rebounding (8.3 rebounds per game).
Maryville enters the weekend with a 9-8 overall record and 6-5 conference record. The Bearcats and Saints have met once already this season in November when the Bearcats triumphed for a 63-59 win. Graduate student center Karlee Feldman is second in rebounding for the GLVC averaging 9.2 per game.
Missouri S&T is 5-14 overall and 2-9 in the GLVC; the Miners will face Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday before making the trip to Lebanon. On Jan. 6, the Bearcats play at Missouri S&T, defeating the Miners 84-71. Junior center Katelynne Roberts is first in the conference for field goal percentage, netting 58.5 percent of shot attempts while holding the second place spot for scoring with an average of 17.7 points per game.
Thursday's game will serve as International Student Day while Saturday's game is Community Day, allowing community members to attend the game for free (RSVP to crconner@mckendree.edu).
