ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University men's volleyball earned its second win of the season in four sets at Maryville on Saturday night. The Bearcats are 2-3 overall as they prepare to face Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponent Lewis and non-conference opponent Missouri S&T next weekend.
McKendree dominated in the first set, winning 25-14 and held on for another win in the second set, 25-18. Maryville found some momentum in the third set and narrowly escaped with a 26-24 win. The Bearcats regained their groove in set four, sealing the victory 25-13.
As a team, McKendree hit .381 percent to Maryville's .088 percent and out-blocked the Saints 9.5-1.0. Service aces worked in the Bearcats' favor as they claimed eight for thhe night.
Redshirt junior right side hitter Nikos Xydakis had two career highs, tallying 14 kills and 15 digs to lead the Bearcats. Following Xydakis were junior outside hitters Kevin Schuele with 13 kills and 15 digs and Tyler Tripp with 10 kills. Redshirt sophomore libero Yadial Diaz added 10 digs for McKendree. Topping the blocks was sophomore middle blocker Rolen Lively who snagged four blocks and redshirt senior setter Tyler Poulsen and junior middle blocker D'Aaron McCraney who grabbed three blocks apiece.
The Bearcats are back in action next weekend for two games at home on Friday and Saturday.
