Women’s Volleyball Takes Down Greyhounds in Five-Set Thriller

LEBANON, Ill. - The McKendree University women's volleyball team topped a top contender, the University of Indianapolis, on Friday night. The five-set Bearcat win marked the first loss in Great Lakes Valley Conference play for the Greyhounds. UIndy was receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

McKendree came out on top in a heated set one with a score of 27-25. The Greyhounds slipped away in sets two and three with scores of 25-17 and 25-21. The Bearcats brought back momentum in the fourth set, taking down the Greyhounds 25-13. In the fifth set, the Bearcats prevailed, taking down UIndy with a score of 15-8.

McKendree had two Bearcats record double-doubles on the day. Outside hitter Destiny Gray led offensively and defensively with 23 kills and 19 digs, securing four service aces. Senior setter Amber Williams notched in 39 assists and 16 digs.

Also leading the pack defensively was junior libero Ashlyn Berczynski with 19 digs. Chipping in were senior defensive specialist Keely Davis and graduate student right side Colleen Preusser with 14 and 11 digs, respectively. McKendree had a strong blocking presence with 26 blocks. Freshman middle blocker Avery Guisinger accounted for nine of those, and Preusser added six.
