PREVIEW: Bearcats to Tangle with Greyhounds

LEBANON, Ill. – Wrapping up their three game home stretch, the Bearcats are preparing to welcome the University of Indianapolis to town on Saturday, October 19th.

Game Happenings

McKendree athletics is hosting our Celebration of Champions event where we honor the hard work, dedication and success from the 2023-24 school year. Also, the McKendree Unviersity Faculty and Staff will be recognized for commitment to the university's students as a part of Faculty and Staff Appreciation game.

Series History

The Greyhounds have gotten the better of the Bearcats in the overall series as this year is the thirteenth meeting between the two GLVC schools. Last year, McKendree earned its first win over the University of Indianapolis in the Circle City by the score of 21-16.

Scouting the Bearcats

Coming off a strong performance during the annual homecoming game, the Bearcats improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC, sitting third in the standings. McKendree knocked off Southwest Baptist by the score of 37-14.  All three phases of the game were dominated by McKendree. The run game churned for over 300 yards, defense picked off six SBU passes and the kicking game was spot on.

On the season, redshirt sophomore Eddie Clark leads the Bearcats on the ground with 119 carries for 538 yards, seven touchdowns.

McKendree holds one of the top two spots in the conference rankings in nine different categories: 3rd down conversion percentage, 3rd down conversion percentage defense, first downs offense, passes intercepted, passing yards allowed, red zone defense, team passing efficiency defense, time of possession, turnover margin, and turnovers gained.

Scouting the Greyhounds

The Greyhounds come into the weekend with an overall record of 5-1 and 3-0 in GLVC. They currently sit 19th in the latest American Football Coaches Poll. Last week, they knocked off Quincy at home by the score of 47-10.

Gavin Sukup leads the UIndy offense with 108 for 182, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. Jon Lewis is their top threat on the ground with 111 carries for 546 yards, six touchdowns. Sukup's favorite target has been Anthony Crowell with 27 catches for 390 yards.
