Women's Volleyball Battles on the Road Against Miners, Saints

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University women's volleyball played two Great Lakes Valley Conference contests on the road this week, falling to Missouri S&T 3-2 and Maryville University in three sets.

The Bearcats went into five sets with Missouri S&T on Friday evening, falling in a close first set with a score of 25-23. McKendree gained momentum, securing set two with a score of 26-24. Set three went to the Saints with a score of 27-25, and McKendree took set four with a score of 25-20. The final set went to the Saints with a score of 15-8, securing the game. 

McKendree had three Bearcats record double-doubles. Graduate student right side Colleen Preusser led the match with 22 digs and 16 kills, and junior outside hitter Destiny Gray recorded 16 kills and 15 digs. Senior setter Amber Williams notched in 48 assists and 13 digs. On the defensive end, junior libero Ashlyn Berczynski led the way with 23 digs, and senior defensive specialist Keely Davis added 17 digs.

Against Maryville, the Saints swept the match with scores of 25-25, 25-11, and 25-19. Offensively, the Bearcats were led by Gray with nine kills and senior outside hitter Emma McIlhargie added six. Defensively, Berczynski tallied in 14 digs, and Gray notched in 10.

McKendree is back at home next weekend on Nov. 1-2 to take on Upper Iowa at 6 p.m. on Friday and Truman State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
