LEBANON, Ill. - The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) has revealed their weekly winners for October 30th, 2024, with fifth-year goalkeeper Jimmy Cronin (Naperville, Ill.) obtaining his second Defensive Player of the Week honors of the season.
This is Cronin's third selection for such an award, as he won it earlier in the year on September 25th after showing his efforts at the Bucknell Invitational. The fifth-year had also won it once during the 2023 season on September 21st.
Cronin guided McKendree to a 2-2 weekend at the annual WWPA Erie Classic in Pennsylvania last Friday through Sunday. He led the entire tournament in total saves (38) and goals against average (15.47). In the two setbacks against Gannon University and Salem University, he had nine saves in each, while in the wins against Penn State Behrend and Mercyhurst, Cronin tallied 10 in each of them. While in the process of guarding the cage, the fifth-year collected three total steals within the four matchups.
As of today, Cronin appears all across the conference's leaderboards, as he is currently first in saves per game at 10.2. He is also third in the WWPA in total saves (163) and save percentage (37.9%) while also placing eighth for migrating the net in steals-per-game (1.3). Cronin has participated in all 16 contests plus one exhibition this season.

McKendree will take a weekend off to prepare for the following week as they are set to host the annual WWPA Bearcat Clash on Saturday, November 9th where they will play in a round-robin format against visiting Gannon University and Salem University. All matches will be played at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois with the first game being the Bearcats against the Tigers at 9:00 AM CDT.
