ADRIAN, Mich. | Arrington Ice Arena - McKendree University women's hockey (5-1-0) began its road trip up to Michigan on Friday afternoon with a commanding 3-1 victory over the defending ACHA Women's Division 1 national champions, the Adrian Bulldogs. The Bearcats put up two third-period goals to drive home the win over the Bulldogs at the Arrington Ice Arena, the home barn for Adrian. McKendree continues its Michigan trip with a battle at Grand Valley State on Saturday, October 5, before closing out the trip up north with a battle against Michigan on October 6.

The Bearcats kicked off their trip up north with an strong true road victory with its 3-1 result over the defending ACHA national champions in Adrian. The win marked back-to-back wins over the Bulldogs after McKendree claimed its first victory over Adrian in program history. 

The first period led to a score by junior forward Kerstyn Barron with dish outs from junior forward Jayna Barnden and senior defense Aria Groot. Barron tallied her second goal of the season and pushed the Bearcats to the 1-0 advantage at the conclusion of the first 20 minutes of action. The Bulldogs and Bearcats left the second period tied at 1-1 with Adrian scoring in the closing minute. 

The third and final period of the contest at Arrington Ice Arena saw McKendree take the lead in the fourth minute with senior defense Lainy Stienstra finding the back of the net. Stienstra's goal was her first of the campaign with junior forward Janaya Laqua and sophomore forward Julia Koski each tallying assists on the eventual game-winner. In the 17th minute of the third period, senior forward Kiley Hasenfratz scored her fifth goal of the season as Groot and sophomore forward Brooklynne Painter each assisted. Junior goaltender Rachel Staresinic collected 20 saves in the victory.
