CREVE COEUR, Mo. | Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex - 12th-ranked McKendree University men's soccer (12-0-7, 8-0-6 GLVC) played to a draw against Maryville in the Great Lakes Valley Conference before dropping from the tournament on penalty kicks, 7-6. The Bearcats remain unbeaten on the season with the result and now look ahead to the NCAA Division II National Tournament and their Super Region. McKendree awaits it fate and seeding for the national tournament, which will be officially revealed on Monday, November 18 at 5:30PM on NCAA.com.
The Bearcats and Saints battled for the second time this season and fifth time over the last two seasons on Friday evening in the semis of the conference tournament. Early on, McKendree found a number of chances but could not connect as possession became the name of the game. The Bearcats fired just three shots in regulation versus the Saints' seven attempts.
The game went into overtime after the two squads left regulation knotted at nil-nil. Overtime came and went with the same story behind four shots combined. The game went to penalty kicks, eventually ending 7-6 in favor of Maryville.Â
