Women's Volleyball Battles on the Road; Williams Records 3,000th Career Assist

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - McKendree University women's volleyball played two Great Lakes Valley Conference games on the road this weekend, falling to the University of Illinois-Springfield in three sets and Quincy University in four sets. 

The Praire Stars won the three-set triumph with scores of 27-25, 25-20, and 25-23. Junior outside hitter Destiny Gray recorded another double-double on the season with 15 digs and 12 kills. Leading the way Defensively for McKendree was graduate student right side Colleen Preusser with 16 digs, while junior libero Ashlyn Berczynski added 14. Offensively, senior setter Amber Williams notched in 27 assists.

Against the Hawks, Quincy took the first two sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-22. McKendree gained back momentum taking set three 25-23, but fell short in set four with a score of 25-18.

McKendree had three players secure double-doubles during the match. Williams led the match with 35 assists and 17 digs, also recording her 3,000th career assist. Gray notched in 12 kills and digs, while Preusser tallied 12 kills and 11 digs.

Chipping in offensively were senior outside hitter Emma McIlhargie and junior middle blocker Hannah Kampwerth with eight kills each. Freshman middle blocker Avery Guisinger concluded the match with five service aces. Defensively Berczynski and senior defensive specialist Keely Davis recorded 17 and 15 digs, respectively. 

The Bearcats are back in action next weekend at home Nov. 15-16, as they take on Drury at 6 p.m. on Friday and Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day.
