KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - McKendree University women's basketball snagged a road win over Truman State University on Thursday evening, defeating the Bulldogs 74-61. The Bearcats improved to 15-5 overall and 11-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
McKendree and Truman State were knotted in the first quarter 12-12 when the Bearcats pushed ahead with a 20-point second quarter to take the lead 32-28. The third quarter doomed the Bulldogs; three straight threes from the Bearcats built momentum that carried them towards the 74-61 win.
Leading the Bearcats in scoring was senior guard Madyson Harper who netted 15 points, shooting 60 percent from the three-point line (3-for-5) and dishing five assists. Also in double-figure scoring were junior guard Clare Breden with 13 and senior forward Naomi McDaniel with 11 points and nine rebounds.
As a team, McKendree shot 45 percent from the field and even better from three-point range at 46 percent (7-for-15).
Coming up, the Bearcats travel to Upper Iowa University for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 3.
