BOLIVAR, Mo. – McKendree University women's basketball captured a big 37-point win over Southwest Baptist University on Thursday night on the road. McKendree improves to 18-6 overall and 14-4 against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents. With the victory, ninth-year head women's basketball coach Kari Kerkhoff earned her 100th career win.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to coach at McKendree," said Kerkhoff. "Tonight is a tribute to all women's basketball players and staff both past and present that have committed to this program. I enjoy mentoring young women and being a part of their successes."
McKendree's booming offense set the tone for the historical evening as they scored over 25 points in three of the four quarters. In the second half, McKendree sealed the victory with a combined 58 points in the last 20 minutes and held SBU to 26 points for the half.
Five McKendree players were in double-figuring scoring for the night as they were led by senior forward Naomi McDaniel and junior guard Clare Breden each with 15 points. Senior guards Madyson Harper and Christy Fortune added four three-pointers apiece while freshman Bailey Parks tied her care high of 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers. McDaniel and senior guard Erin Golden led on the boards, grabbing six rebounds each.
As a team, McKendree shot a season-high 63.3 percent from the field (38-for-60) and shot their second-highest percentage this season from beyond the arc at 54.2 percent (13-for-24). Additionally, McKendree tallied its fourth game on the season with 20 or more assists.
Kerkhoff said of the win, "I am proud of our defensive effort tonight which led us to great movement on the offensive end. I thought we shared the ball well and hit the open three when we had the opportunity."
