O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree University men's tennis swept both of its home matches this past weekend against Missouri Baptist University and Quincy University. The Bearcats are 5-0 on the season as they continue with two more matches next weekend.
Against Missouri Baptist, McKendree kicked off the match with three doubles wins. Fifth-year senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico and sophomore Bendix Schroder won 6-2 in the No.1 match while sixth-year senior Vishnu Prasad and sophomore Luka Kalenic took the No.2 match 7-5. In the No.3 match, junior Seb Holden and fifth-year senior Lorenzo del Biondo secured the victory 6-3.
In singles play, Schmitz Frederico defeated Dragan Omcikus 6-0, 6-1 in the No.1 match. In the No.2 match, Holden followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Luca Ebenriter. Schroder claimed the win 6-2, 6-3 against Youssef Ihab while Prasad won 7-5, 6-1 against Timofey Tokmakov. To round out the victories for the day, Kalenic claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Arkhip Tokmakov and del Biondo defeated Lucas Kzam 6-0, 6-4.
McKendree carried the momentum into Saturday with another 7-0 win against Quincy. In doubles play, Schmitz Frederico and Schroder went 6-1 at No.1, Prasad and Kalenic went 6-3 at No.2, and del Biondo along with freshman Mathjis Aalpol claimed a 7-5 win.
Singles were again controlled by McKendree, first with a 6-1, 6-1 win for Schmitz Frederico against Inigo Villacampa at the No.1 spot. Holden faced Zach Willing, securing a 7-6, 6-0 victory while Schroder defeated Joseph Restrepo 6-1, 6-0. Prasad won 6-3, 6-0 against Ettore Pavesi while Kalenic claimed the 6-1, 7-6 win over Gianni Lopez. Rounding out the victories for the day was del Biondo in the No.6 match against Sebastian Gomez, winning 6-4, 6-4.
Up next, the Bearcats are on the road to face Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday, March 2 and Drury University on Sunday, March 3.
