SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University men's tennis split its matches on the weekend with a 5-2 win over Northwest Missouri State University for the first time in program history and a 2-5 loss to Drury University. The Bearcats are 6-1 overall on the season.
Against Northwest Missouri State, the Bearcats secured two doubles wins and four singles wins on the day. In doubles, fifth-year senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico and sophomore Bendix Schroder defeated Andrea Zamurri and Michael Delebois 7-6 (12-10) in the No.1 match while sophomore Luka Kalenic and sixth-year senior Vishnu Prasad defeated Rafal Bednarczuk and Vini Rodrigues 6-1.
In singles, Schmitz Frederico sealed a 74-6 win against Zamurri at the No.1 spot. Junior Seb Holden defeated Mason Meier 6-3, 73-6 in No.2 singles while Schroder posted a 7-5, 6-2 win against Delebois. Rounding out the singles wins for the day was fifth-year senior Lorenzo del Biondo in the No.6 match as he defeated Luc Mascitti 6-1, 7-5.
The Bearcats faced Drury on Sunday afternoon, taking one win in doubles and two wins in singles. The first victory came in the No.3 doubles match as Holden and del Biondo collected a 6-2 win against Alejandro Esquivel and Lukas Rieber.
In singles, Prasad defeated Chuy Gonzales 6-2, 6-0 in the No.4 singles while the No.6 match was won by del Biondo 6-4, 6-4 over Rieber.
Up next, McKendree travels to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on the University of Texas at Tyler, Cameron University, and Midwestern State University-Texas on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively.
