INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McKendree University men's tennis opened its spring season in Indianapolis this past weekend, facing Grand Valley State University and Tiffin University. The Bearcats won both matches 4-3.
Against Grand Valley State, fifth-year senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico secured a win over Grand Valley State's Sean Miller 6-4, and 6-1. Junior Seb Holden continued the winning for the Bearcats winning against Lucas Gonzalez 6-3 and 6-4. Fifth year senior Lorenzo del Biondo also won his match 6-1, 6-7 over Stephen Claasen.
Sixth-year senior Vishnu Prasad fell in his match 6-0 and 6-2, as well as sophomore Bendix Schröder 6-0, 6-2, and sophomore Luka Kalenic finished his match 6-2 and 6-3.
In doubles play, the duo of Frederico and Schroder secured a win 7-5 as well as the duo of Holden and del Biondo winning 6-3 and securing the team victory for the Bearcats.
Against Tiffin, Holden led the way winning his match over Michael Gurtner 6-4 and 6-1. Prasad secured a victory as well against Matthew Weaver 6-1, 6-1. Kalenic won a tightly contested match 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 against Maxime Navrotchi. Del Biondo secured the team victory for the Bearcats with his 6-2, 6-3 individual victory against Cyrille Colomb.
The Bearcats play next at home against Michigan Tech University on Friday, Feb. 16 at the St. Clair Tennis Club.
