QUINCY, Ill. - McKendree University men's volleyball captured its first Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association win of the season with a three-set victory over Quincy University on Thursday night. The Bearcats improved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in MIVA play.
McKendree slipped away with the first set win 26-24 before capturing back-to-back 25-17 wins in sets two and three. As a team, the Bearcats had their best hitting performance of the season thus far, tallying a hitting percentage of .469. In the second set, McKendree hit .684 percent.
Leading the way in kills for McKendree was redshirt junior right side hitter Nikos Xydakis set a career high for the second time this season with 21 kills and a .655 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle blocker Rolen Lively added eight kills while junior outside hitter Kevin Schuele and junior middle blocker D'Aaron McCraney tallied seven kills each.
Defensively, Schuele posted nine digs and redshirt senior Tyler Poulsen snagged two blocks.
Coming up, the Bearcats are back at home on Friday, Feb. 9 for Youth Night against Ball State at 7 p.m. All spectators 18 years of age and younger can receive free admission to the game.
