Women's Basketball Secures the Win on Senior Day Against the Greyhounds

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's basketball captured their final regular season win at home against the University of Indianapolis on senior day with a score of 84-58. The Bearcats closed the regular season with a 20-8 overall record and finished with a 16-6 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. This win gave the program their first 20 win season in the Division II era and the most wins since the 2009-10 season. 

Before the game, the program honored student managers Lindsey Eimers and Lauren Stolzman, along with Maclayne Taylor, Madyson Harper, Naomi McDaniel, Erin Golden, Christy Fortune and Kristyn Mitchell for their commitment to the program. 

McKendree controlled the lead and pace in the first quarter, taking an early 19-17 lead. The Bearcats continued to control the tempo the rest of the first half with a score of 32-29. The Bearcats had an explosive second half scoring 33 points in the fourth quarter with a final score of 84-58. 

Senior forward Naomi McDaniel led the Bearcats offensively and defensively, posting a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. Senior guard Christy Fortune netted 16 points, while senior guard Madyson Harper and junior guard Clare Breden each chipped in 11 points. Fortune and Breden each tabbed in six rebounds to help the Bearcats defensively.

McKendree had an efficient shooting day, sinking 59.2% of field goals and 52.6% percent from the three line.

The Bearcats are back in action next Thursday, March 7 as they earned the No. 2 seed in the GLVC tournament. They will battle the Upper Iowa University Peacocks at 2:15 p.m. on the campus of Lindenwood University.
