O'FALLON, Ill- McKendree University men's tennis played two matches this weekend, winning both over the Missouri Valley College Vikings and Rockhurst University Hawks. The Bearcats swept the Vikings 7-0 and grounded the Hawks 4-3.
Against Missouri Valley College, fifth year senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico, secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No.1 over Sergio Martinez. Reigning GLVC player of the week, junior Seb Holden won his singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Ruslan Anurev. Sophomore Bendix Schröder defeated Alexis Diaz 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Luka Kalenic was victorious over Francesco Caratti 6-2, 6-3. Junior Charlie Sanzo picked up a win over Alecson Adriano Deschamps 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Giacomo Valerga prevailed in a decisive third set defeating Alvaro Ruiz 5-7, 6-4, 12-10. In doubles Frederico and Schröder won with a score of 6-1, as did Kalenic and Pahwa with a 7-6 score.
Against Rockhurst, Frederico vanquished Semyon Tsyrenov with a score of 6-4, and 7-5. Holden continued the winning ways 6-0, 6-4 over Louis Keiner 6-0, 6-4. Luka Kalenic got the better of Agustin Cortes 6-1, 6-3. Fifth year senior Lorenzo del Biondo was triumphant over Gustavo Gil. Del Biondo and Holden also won their doubles match over Gil and Tikhonov.
The Bearcats play again against GLVC opponent WIlliam Jewel University Fri. Mar, 29th at home.
