LEBANON, Ill. - No.18-ranked McKendree University men's volleyball fell to No.9-ranked Ohio State University on Thursday night as the Bearcats celebrated Senior Night. McKendree moves to 14-9 overall on the season and 8-6 in conference play.
The Bearcats made the first jab with a 28-26 win in the first set while Ohio State took the second set 25-19. McKendree and the Buckeyes traded sets again with the third set belonging to the Bearcats 25-23 and the fourth set going to Ohio State 25-21. Ultimately, the Buckeyes would take the fifth set 15-10.
Junior outside hitter Tyler Tripp recorded two career highs on the day with 20 kills and six blocks. Two more Bearcats were in double-figure kills as junior outside hitter Kevin Schuele posted 12 and junior middle blocker D'Aaron McCraney tallied 10. Freshman setter Nathan Flayter delivered a career-high 50 assists and three aces.
On the defensive side, redshirt sophomore libero Yadiel Diaz collected a team-high nine digs while sophomore middle blocker Rolen Lively snagged seven blocks.
The Bearcats play their final regular season games on the road next week at Ohio State on Thursday and Ball State on Saturday.
