O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree University women's tennis faced William Jewell College in a conference match on Friday and defeated the Cardinals 7-0. The Bearcats are 5-8 on the season and will play their last two home matches on April 12 and 13.
In doubles play, senior Camilla Fonseca and fifth-year senior Viola Cipriani won 6-3 in the No.1 match, junior Sofija Djunisijevic and sophomore Iva Poleksic took a 6-3 victory, and seniors Maria Vitoria Salomao and Rhyan Cook defeated the William Jewell No.3 duo 6-1.
To start off singles play, Fonseca defeated Julia Rabiej 6-1, 6-1. Cipriani followed suit in the No.2 match, beating Gwyn Gifford 5-7, 6-1, 10-5, while Cook topped Julia Santos 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. Poleksic showed a dominating performance against Maisie Markowitz in the No.4 match 6-0, 6-0. Rounding out the sweep for the day was Djunisijevic with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Molly McBratney and Salomao in the No.6 match over Chloe McDonnell 6-1, 6-0.
McKendree closes out its home schedule on April 12 against Illinois-Springfield and April 13 against Lewis.
