O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree University women's tennis improved to 7-8 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 6-1 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield and a 4-3 win against No.49 Lewis University. The Bearcats will prepare for their final regular season matches before the GLVC tournament on May 3-5. 

McKendree 6, Illinois Springfield 1 
Against Illinois Springfield, McKendree swept doubles play as all three duos won with a score of 6-2: senior Camilla Fonseca and fifth-year senior Viola Cipriani in the No.1 spot, junior Sofija Djunisijevic and sophomore Iva Poleksic in the No.2 match, and seniors Rhyan Cook and Maria Vitoria Salomao in No.3 doubles.  

In singles play, Fonseca defeated UIS's Llopis 6-4, 6-4 at No.1 while Cipriani posted scores of 6-1, 6-1 against Skjelstad. In the No.3 match, Cook won 6-3, 6-2 over Schrenferman. The No.5 match belonged to Djunisijevic as she recorded scores of 6-2, 6-0 against Grogen. Rounding out the singles victories was Salomao in the No.6 spot, securing a 6-2, 6-2 win against Kalinwoska.  

McKendree 4, No.49 Lewis 3 
The Bearcats kept the momentum going on Saturday with two doubles wins and three singles wins to take down No.49-ranked Lewis. In the No.2 doubles match, Cook and Salomao won 7-6 while match No.3 was won by default to give McKendree the point for doubles.  

In singles, Fonseca captured a 7-5, 6-4 win over Lewis's Smith in the No.1 match. Poleksic and Djunisijevic won the No.5 and No.6 matches respectively by default to put the Bearcats up 4-3.

McKendree has three matches left in the regular season, first at Indianapolis on Friday, April 19 at 2 pm. Then, the Bearcats head across the river for a match at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday, April 26 at 2 pm followed by a match with Maryville University on Saturday, April 27 at 11 am.
