QUINCY, Ill. - McKendree University softball (29-18, 12-8 GLVC) splits its Saturday afternoon doubleheader with the Quincy Hawks, bringing home the game one victory, 9-2, while falling in the latter contest, 8-2. The Bearcats went down first in both games but ferociously came back in game one with a six-run third inning, never looking back. McKendree is back in action on April 21 at Illinois Springfield with a 12PM doubleheader against the Prairie Stars.
Game 1 @ Quincy
The Bearcats had to make a light comeback in the weekend opener, going down 1-0 to Quincy in the second inning. McKendree did not take their comeback lightly, going for six runs in the tip of the third to hold a lead throughout. Sophomore infielder
Lauren Harris started things off with a center field single which scored two runs as freshman outfielder
Molly Bartz and junior infielder
Jenna Roth both rounded home. Then senior outfielder
Taylor Witges rallied for her own single which drove in two more runs with Harris and junior utility
Heaven Lawrence. Senior outfielder
Jordan Sapp closed up the inning's scoring with a double to drive home Witges and graduate infielder Olivia Sstansbury. The Bearcats led 6-1 following the third.
The sixth inning zipped up the game for McKendree as Stansbury sent a three-run bomb to extend the advantage to 9-1 with Harris and senior infielder
Reagan Cheely scoring. Quincy scored one more in the bottom end of the sixth but the Bearcats locked up the game for the win.

Ellie Quaethem threw another complete game, her 18th of the spring campaign, with nine punchouts and just one earned run.
Game 2 @ Quincy
McKendree had to make a major charge back in game two, going down 6-0 by the fifth inning. The Bearcats slowly pieced away, scoring a pair in the sixth with Cheely knocking a single to right with Bartz scoring and a Stansbury ground-out allowing Lawrence to reach home.
McKendree's comeback fell short as the Hawks responded with two more runs, sealing the game in the host's favor.
