No.17 Men's Soccer Gains Third-Straight True Road Win; Shuts Out Ohio Dominican

Two Bearcats nets first collegiate scores

COLUMBUS, Ohio - No.17 McKendree University men's soccer (3-0-0) added a third-straight true road victory on Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout over the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. The Bearcats put up one first half goal and two in the second half with two players notching their first collegiate goals in freshman midfielder Paul Moodie and freshman defender Henri Poll. With the victory, the Bearcats moved to 3-0-1 against ODU, including three-straght clean sheet wins. McKendree takes its undefeated record into Great Lakes Valley Conference play which begins on September 15 with a road battle at Rockhurst in Kansas City, Missouri.

McKendree and ODU fought for an advantage through the majority of the first half with the Bearcats finding a gap in the Panthers' back line. Freshman midfielder Paul Moodie corralled a ball from senior midfielder Philipp Schmidt, firing it into the back of the net in the 33rd minute. McKendree held its 1-0 advantage going into the halftime intermission period behind Moodie's first collegiate goal.

In the second half, the Bearcats put up two insurance scores to lock up the contest while holding ODU to just four total shots. Schmidt, who assisted on the first goal of the game, collected a pass from freshman midfielder Henri Poll off a corner by senior defender Matteo Schubert and fired it past the ODU keeper in the 49th minute of action. In the 59th minute of play, McKendree broke through for its third goal with Poll scoring his first collegiate score with Schubert adding the assist.

Overall on the day, the Bearcats' defense held the Panthers to zero on-frame shots with just one earned corner kick with sophomore goalkeeper Christian Herluf gaining his 16th career shutout.
