O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree Men's swim and dive defeated the Washington University in Saint Louis Bears by a score of 187-105.
Starting off the day juniors Xander McWhorter and Finn Moseley took second in the 1- and 3-meter dives, with scores of 343.73 and 1.50 respectively.
The 200-yard medley relay saw senior Patryk Rozenek, freshman Nojus Bertulis, senior Alireza Yavari, and freshman Vova Gavrysh take first place with a time of 1:29.41. The "B" team placed second in 1:31.97, consisting of senior Abram Hagedorn, freshman Polat Tasbasi, junior Joey Ovanic, and senior Leo Gandaria-Hernandez.
The 1000-yard freestyle saw sophomore Christan Davidson place first with a time of 9:28.05 and senior Jack Lustig with a time of 9:40.28.
In the 200-yard freestyle, a trio of bearcats finished up front with junior Tyson Upton leading the way with a time of 1.39.87. Senior Arthur Souza finished second with a time of 1:40.03, and Gandaria-Hernandez was just behind in 1:40.60.
Rozenek led the way in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.52, along with junior Caden Brooks and Hagedorn placing second and third with times of 50.26 and 51.00.
Tasbasi took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 55.87 and Dante Nicola Rho placed second in 56.26.
The 200-yard fly saw freshman Vova Gavrysh placed first with a time of 1:49.48.
Freshman Nojus, Bertulis, senior Patrick Cramer, and junior Kadence Griffin placed first second and third in 50-yard freestyle with times of 21.02, 21.48 and 21.52.
Upton and Gandaria-Hernandez took first and second place with times of 45.86 and 46.02 in the 100-yard freestyle.
In the 200-yard backstroke Rozenek and Hagedorn took first and second with times of 1:49.38 and 1:55.60.
The 200-yard breaststroke saw a repeat of the 100 as Tasbasi took first and Dante Nicola Rho placed second with times of 2:04.05, and 2:06.48.
Brooks and Souza took first and second in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 4:44.19 and 4:49.32 respectively.
Lustig won the 100-yard fly 49.28.
The 400-yard freestyle relay consisting of Garvysh, Souza, Rozenek, and Upton took first with a time of 3:00.24 to close out the day.
The Bearcats defeated the Bears 187-105, and will jump back in the pool next Fri. Jan. 17-18 in Columbia, Mo. where they will compete against the University of Missouri and Missouri State University.
