Women’s Basketball Loses Edge Early in Home Defeat

Kyra Taylor Pushes Double-Digit Scoring Streak to Five

LEBANON, Ill. – The women's basketball team took on a matchup where they never led or tied as they faltered against Missouri S&T on Saturday, January 25th in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center in Lebanon, Illinois.

Score: McKendree University 65, Missouri S&T 79

Record: Bearcats 11-6, 7-4 GLVC | Miners 11-5, 6-4 GLVC

HOW IT HAPPENED

Missouri S&T had the game in their favor since early in the first quarter as they began with a 14-4 edge with a well-balanced scoring effort. A made three-pointer by McKendree senior guard Maci Meyer (Hubertus, Wis.) followed by a mid-range jumper from freshman forward Kyra Taylor (Davenport, Iowa) sparked an 8-1 run for the Bearcats to still trail after period number one, only down 15-12.

Much like the opening period, the Miners would start the second quarter with a 12-4 run and up their lead to 11 with 4:30 remaining in the first half. The Bearcats would tread water by trading baskets with their opposition as sophomore forward Baylie Parks (Lake Zurich, Ill.) contributed seven of her points within as Missouri S&T would head into break still leading, 35-28.

The alternating scoring continued its way into the third quarter as Missouri S&T was still building up their comfortable lead despite a 6-0 burst from McKendree late in the period. The Bearcats would still trail 41-54 at the end of quarter number three.

The Bearcats would make one more final push to close the gap, utilizing an 11-5 run, with seven coming via Taylor as their deficit would dwindle to as little as nine. However, Miner senior forward Katelynne Roberts would help initiate a 13-3 run in the midst of the final period of regulation as McKendree would drop the conference contest at home 65-79.
