No. 20 Men's Volleyball Battles Against No. 4 Hawaii

MANOA, Hawaii - McKendree University men's volleyball played two games at the University of Hawaii as part of their 2025 season-opening trip. The No. 20 Bearcats fell to the No. 4 Warriors 3-1 in the first match and 3-0 in the second.

Game 1 - Hawaii 3, McKendree 1
In the first game, Hawaii started off the match by taking the first set with a score of 25-20. The Bearcats came out with energy in the second set and won the set with a score of 25-20. The Warriors took the last two sets with close scores of 25-22, securing the victory.

Leading the way offensively for the Bearcats were senior outside hitter Kevin Schuele and redshirt junior outside hitter Sam Hoskin with 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Nate Flayter led the charge in assists with 37. 

Defensively, Schuele snagged in eight digs and Flayter notched in seven digs. McKendree led the way in blocks over the Warriors with eight. Senior middle blocker D'Aaron McCraney dominated with his blocking presence, tying his career-high with seven blocks. Graduate student opposite hitter Nikos Xydakis tabbed in four blocks to help the Bearcats on the defensive end. 

Game 2 - Hawaii 3, McKendree 0
The Warriors completed the three-set triumph over the Bearcats with scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-16.

Offensively, McCraney led the way with eight kills, and Hoskin and Schuele each chipped in with seven. Flayter added 27 assists and two service aces. On the defensive end, Hoskin notched in eight digs, while Xydakis and junior libero Yadiel Diaz added five. McCraney recorded three blocks, and Xydakis and Hoskin tabbed in two each.

McKendree will complete their trip out west in California as they take on UC San Diego on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. PST in La Jolla, California.
